Safety & Environmental

At Dunmore East SUP and Yoga safety is at the centre of everything we do. Our water activity operating procedures and emergency action plans have been developed with and reviewed by regulatory bodies and emergency services in the area such as:

  • Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine
  • Waterford County and City Council
  • Water Safety Ireland (WSI)
  • Irish Surfing Association (ISA)
  • Academy of Surfing Instructors (ASI)
  • RNLI Dunmore East
  • Coast Guard Dunmore East
  • National Ambulance Service
  • An Garda Siochana
  • Rescue 117
  • Fire Department Dunmore East

Our sessions and courses are delivered in a relaxed manner but each activity is structured and detailed step by step. All of our sessions are designed to ensure that our participants are kept safe at all times and also we design and manage our sessions to ensure other water and beach users are impacted and exposed to any risk from our activities. The routes we take on the water are carefully mapped out and are monitored at all times to ensure zero impact to others.  Our lessons and course content consists of specific guidelines and best practises from both National and International Governing Bodies and also industry best practises and guidelines

Our operating procedures, standards and practices have been developed to ensure we leave no footprint behind from our activities. We regularly review our operational procedures with a local marine biologist to ensure we achieve zero impact to the surrounding environment. We are also involved in a coastal environmental group which carries out regular beach cleans and information sessions on the coastal environment around DE.

Neighbours and other area users

We pay particular emphasis on ensuring there is no impact to our neighbours or other water users during our activities. Our participants are instructed to give right away to all others both on and off the water and we do not allow our participants to manoeuvre our standup paddleboards until they can stop and control the boards themselves. We risk assess our routes on the water each day and monitor closely during our activities and we also set out exclusion zones to reduce any impact to other people in the water. We are also available to review our procedures with other water users if they have any concerns or questions and if required, we are always looking for ways to improve our safety controls. Please feel free to make contact anytime on these matters.
